Calgary is playing host to the Indspire Awards, an annual award ceremony that celebrates “the journey and accomplishments of 12 extraordinary First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals.”

The award ceremony takes place on Feb. 22 at the Jubilee Auditorium. It will later be broadcast on APTN and CBC, CBC Radio and CBC Gem on June 23.

“The 2019 Indspire Awards will continue to bestow the highest honour on Indigenous people who have made significant contributions to Indigenous education, art, culture, business, health, law, sports and public service in Canada as well as three youth awards to First Nations, Inuit and Métis role models,” Indspire said in a news release.

Indspire, an Indigenous-led national Charity, awarded $14.2 million in scholarships to First Nations, Inuit and Métis students in 2017-18.

The awards show will be co-hosted by Michelle Thrush and Kaniehtiio Horn and include performances by Pat Vegas, PJ Vegas, The Northern Cree Singers, Jeremy Dutcher, Moe Clark, Derek Miller, Carsen Grey, Shakti Hayes, Beatrice Love and Wolf Saga.

Tickets for the awards start at $350 for individual tickets and are available at indspire.ca .
