Board chair Dave Penney of Ignace (left) is joined by director of education Sean Monteith (right) at last week’s meeting. (Submitted) A familiar voice is leaving the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board. For 33 years, Dave Penney was the trustee representing Ignace. In recent years, he was the chairman of the board, as it grew by leaps and bounds.
Staff with the school board are now visiting First Nations in Nishnawbe Aski Nation, as they look to grow partnerships in the Far North, in order to ease the transition for students between small isolated communities and high schools in the district. Trustees now oversee an area that stretches from Kenora in the west to Upsala in the east.
Dave Wilkinson of Dryden and Michelle Guitard of Kenora are also recognized for their service. At their next meeting, the board will welcome a new member, Dave Cornish.
