Susan Lee of Newcastle Creek was reported missing on July 21, and RCMP believe she may be in the Napadogan area. (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) Residents in St. Mary’s First Nation are organizing a ground search for Susan Lee, who was reported missing just under two weeks ago.
Lee, 43, was last seen on July 17 around 11 p.m. She was reported missing to the RCMP on July 21.
When was last spotted, Lee was driving her black 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV — with New Brunswick licence plate JFF 935 — in the area of Booth Road in Newcastle Creek, west of Minto.
Police say they are concerned about her wellbeing.
The search party will meet Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Supermarket at 150 Cliffe St., in the community where Lee grew up.
From there, people will head to the Napadogan area just north of Stanley, where they will search for Lee along side roads.
Sgt. Chantal Farrah, spokesperson with the RCMP, said police believe she is in the Napadogan area, possibly with her small black poodle, and have tried searching for her there by helicopter.
“Vehicles will be able to cover quite a bit of that whole entire area,” said Bill Duthie, a St. Mary’s resident who is organizing the search party.
Duthie said the ground search will cover areas the RCMP helicopter might have missed.
“We’ll be checking everything, even the waterways and small lakes,” he said. “It is quite an area.”
The search is expected to go on all day and some people will stay out until dark if needed.
People are also expected to bring four-wheelers, side-by-sides and other vehicles. Duthie said boats will also be used if needed.
“We need to find the vehicle,” he said. “If her vehicle is found, that’s when people will start walking.” A need to help
More than 50 people are expected to assist in the search, several of whom hunt and fish in the area.
“Some members of the search party are very familiar with the area,” he said.
Duthie said he doesn’t know Lee personally but felt the need to help.”We also have support from the community … to help start with this search,” he said.Lee has brown eyes, long dark hair, is five feet six inches feet tall and weighs 115 lbs.She was last seen with black jeans and a long-sleeved black sweater and may be with her dog, Baxter, a small black poodle.Farrah said any sightings or additional information should be reported to RCMP.
